Thanks!Bottom line, Ben deserves huge credit for starting Road to VR when he did.Having lived through the previous wave of VR in the nineties, it took the Rift's appearance at E3 2012 to give me the push I needed to start my own website (riftvr.com). But it was quickly obvious this new movement was going to be huge and that Ben and I teaming up was the best way to ride the wave.Hard to believe that it's getting on for nearly 2 years since I reached out to Ben to say 'How about it?'
.It's been incredibly hard work, but also a hugely rewarding experience. Looking at where we were then and where we are now with Road to VR, it's kinda humbling. As for this community and being a part of it, I can honestly say that I've been around the web for a long time and I've never encountered such a dedicated, passionate, obsessive and gentlemanly band of brothers. Thank you for all your support over the last couple of years. As for where Road to VR goes from here?
Well, watch this space.:). Road to VR has been an authoritative voice in covering the VR space, and they're usually way ahead of the curve. I'm impressed that they're also getting into breaking exclusive news, and so I'd expect them to be delivering all of the biggest stories from this year's E3.But I'm also really impressed with Ben's futurist vision to start Road to VR 10 months before the launch of the Oculus Rift Kickstarter on Aug 1, 2012. He says that he was partially lucky, but also deserves all the kudos to also see that all of the pieces for a VR revolution were in place and that we just needed someone like Lucky and Carmack to step up and start putting the hardware and software together to make it happen. It also stuck with me Ben's take that VR has real legs due to how VR speaks directly to our subconscious and unconscious minds. VR is going to be continuing to be really compelling to him for the foreseeable future and relevant forever. A bold statement for a futurist to make, but I think it's spot on. I'm also really impressed with Ben's futurist vision to start Road to VR 10 months before the launch of the Oculus Rift Kickstarter on Aug 1, 2012Yes it was quite visionary and a good idea to create a website dedicated to VR at this time.
I think it did coincide with the resurgence of HMDs in 2011 (Sony HMZ-T1, Vuzix Wrap VR1200, SMD ST-1080, Cinemizer OLED). There was quite some activity related to VR on MTBS3D as well at this time, I really couldn't have imagined it was going to be so big in no time.
